I am in search of my grandfather's family, Rush.  Peter (Patrick) Rush was born in Ireland in 1790, not sure of where, as I am unable to find any records.  Peter (Patrick) married Agnes Hill also born in Ireland, Derry, Ireland.  They immigrated to Renfrewshire Scotland Sometime before 1830.  Would greatly appreciate any help

Thank you in advance

  • Pat,

The information you have given us isn’t going to be enough to identify this family in Ireland. You say they went to Scotland. Did they marry in Ireland or Scotland? What can you tell us from Scottish records? Did they die in Scotland, post 1855? If so, the death records should give parents names and occupations.

Are the family in any Scottish censuses? If so, what information is shown there?

    What denomination were they?

Looking at the 1831 census for Derry there was just 1 Rush family in the county. John Rush in Largy, Tamlaght Finlagan. A Presbyterian family.

  • According to rootsireland.ie, an Agnes Hill was born 08-Apr-1796.

    Address: Kurin

    Presbyterian

    Parish/District: FIRST GARVAGH, Co. Derry

I cannot say for sure that this is your Agnes, but the time frame is right.
