Happy New Year!
1) Im wondering if a couple from county cork (ie Millstreet or Macroom ) married in the city would the church typically be selected randomly or was there a designated church (e.g St Patrick’s if coming from Carrigtwohill/Middleton area). St Mary’s if from Mallow/Middleton)?
2) I noted a 2nd marriage in the City albeit the widower was a farmer in Millstreet and sequentially had his children there following the marriage.
are there any other typical reasons why a couple would marry outside of their parishes?
Many Thanks
Liz

It was and is tradition & practise that couples got married in the Parish Church where the Bride was born/Baptised regardless of where the groom was born/Baptised. Mainly, this was to facilitate the best records of the marriage being recorded as her original Birth/Baptism were available here containing her birth surname and full detail of her parents.
