I am interested in finding information on Patrick Tormey and his wife Mary Rooney. I think they were from Castlepollard in Westmeath. They had a son John, born 1825, daughter Ann born in 1826, son Patrick born in 1840 and other children.
John came to the United States about 1850 along with Peter Fagan who I think was also from Castlepollard. Ann and Patrick and another daughter followed a few years later.
The older Patrick Tormey had a brother Jeremiah who married Mary Collins.
Any information would be appreciated. I plan on visiting Ireland in June.
thank you

Jim:
Records for Castlepollard RC parish go back to the late 1700s and records are available from 1790 on. However, when I search the subscription site Roots Ireland I don't see a marriage record for Patrick Tormey and Mary Rooney and I did not locate any Tormey baptisms in Castlepollard with Patrick and Mary as the parents.
However, there are four baptismal records in the Delvin RC parish where the parents were Patrick Tormey and Mary Rooney. The Delvin RC parish records have a gap from 1812 until July 1830. The children were Margaret 1831 Ellen 1834 Patrick 1839 Thomas 1839. The Patrick and Thomas records are interesting.
Patrick Tormey baptized February 18 1839 in Delvin Patrick Tormey and Mary Rooney parents sponsors John Buck and Anne Rooney
Thomas Tormey baptized June 27 1839 in Delvin Patrick Tormey and Mary Rooney parents sponsors John Buck and Mary Bray.
Maybe Thomas belonged to a different couple with the same names? By the way, I checked the parish register and verified all the info. Strange that a John Buck was the witness on both records.
Is it possible the Delvin family is your family. Delving is a few parishes southeast of Castlepollard. The gap in Delvin records could explain not finding the marriage record or the older children's baptismal records.

Thank you very much.
The Delvin one is correct. An aunt told me it was Castlepollard but Patrick brought with him to America a geography book and it has the Delvin School written in to it under his name.
Are there any Tormeys still in Delvin?
