Hi My husband’s 3x great grandmother’s death certificate advises that she was born at a place called ???? Erua ??? In County Clare. Can anyone please advise as to where this place is, or if it is short for another place name. Her surname was Crow (e) - sometimes spelt with the e, sometimes without. Her husband’s death certificate lists her as being spelt as ‘Croagh’. Her name was Honora Crow, daughter of Michael Crow and Catherine Hastings of County Clare. They all immigrated to Australia in the 1850’s - 1860’s.

  • Tara,

In the RC parish of Doonass-and-Truagh, there is a townland called Errina in the civil parish of Kiltenanlea. There is a Griffith's Valuation record from 1852 for Michael Crowe in Errina. The baptism and marriage records for Doonass-and-Truagh begin in 1851.

    Maybe this is your relative.

  • Crowe as a family name originates from this part of Clare and is widely found in most parishes of Clare back in the 1800s
