Hi There
I am looking for any help or assistance finding any records / ancestry of Robert Hughes.
Born in Rockcorry Monaghan on the 29th April 1822
Any help, advice or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Stewart:
Were your ancestors Roman Catholic or Church of Ireland?
There is a William Hughes in the 1830 Tithe listing for Ematris civil parish. William was living in the town of Roscorry which is likely Rockcorry.

Thank you that Roger.
I am not sure which faith the Hughes family were at that point.
My Grandmother was the last of the Hughes family name as far as I can make out and she was Roman Catholic.
Robert Hughes had a couple of Sons, one of which was called Robert William Hughes.
It would be wonderful to find out that the William Hughes you have found is Robert Hughes Farther.
Not sure how I go about accessing birth registers in Ireland though.
Kind Regards

Stewart:
Civil registration of births started in Ireland in 1864. Prior to 1864, we have to use any available church records. Ematris RC baptismal records start in May 1848. I did a search on the subscription site Roots Ireland looking for Hughes baptismal records with the father named Robert and unfortunately no records came up for all of Co. Monaghan. Maybe the sons were born before May 1848?

Hi Roger.
Thank you for having a look for me, really appreciate it.
Robert was born in Rockcorry in 1822 so predates the civil register
His Son Robert William was born in Manchester in 1851.
Was hopeful to find ancestry still in Ireland or Roberts Mother and Father.
Once again thank you for looking.
Best Regards

Hi Stewart - our Hughes ancestors were likely from close to the same area in Co. Monaghan; cousin connections indicate they may have been in Cordressigo townland.
It would be quite interesting to see if our Hughes families are connected.
