Hello. I have reached some dead ends in my search for my Kerry roots. My Great x 3 grandparents were Jeremiah O'Connor/Connor and Hanorah, whose last name has been debated and speculated upon. It may be Malvey, Mealey or possibly Healy (and variant spellings thereof). I have no firm dates of birth for either, although Hanorah died in Massachusetts in 1890 at age 86, which would equate to an approximate birth year of 1804. Kilgarvan baptism records indicate their children were Daniel (1827), John (1830) Timothy (1832) and Ellen (1836), and they may have lived/farmed in the Shandrum townland south of Kilgarvan town. It appears Hanorah, John (my GG grandfather) and Daniel emigrated to the US, probably around 1850 (still trying to sort out all the details), but not sure about the rest.
My question is, can you help me find Hanorah's family locally(Kirlarvan area)? I find no indication of the names Malvey or Mealy, however there are several Healys in the old Kilgarvan burial ground. Her parents MAY have been named William and Mary, based on some speculative information by now long dead relatives' records.
Any assistance is appreciated.
Regards, Bob O'Connor

Bob,
I will keep looking. Per RootsIreland, a Denis Malvey married Margaret O'Connor in 1821 in Shandrum, Kilgarvan. They had a daughter Bridget there in 1833.

Bob,
Per the paid site Roots Ireland, Honora's maiden name is Malvey....one child has it given as Maley. Ellen's baptism date is 9 Jun 1842, Timothy's is 15 Nov 1836, John - 1 Nov 1830, and Daniel 9 Jan 1827. Jeremiah's surname is Connor in all the records. The marriage records for the RC parish of Kilgarvan began in 1818, but I could not locate their marriage record. Their marriage record was also not found on the irishgenealogy.ie site under the church records tab; however, there is a record for their possible relations: Denis Malvey of Shandrum married Margaret Connor (no residence) on 30 Oct 1821; and the witnesses were Daniel Connor and Jeremiah Connor.

Carolyn

Mary and Carolyn,
Thank you for the information. I did see Hanorah's name as Malvey on one of the children's baptism records, wasn't sure it was an M or an H. Some of those old handwritten records can be difficult. I must have missed the marriage of Denis and Margaret. I have searched several times for Jeremiah and Hanorah's marriage records, with no luck. This is likely as far back as I can go- I have searched Hanorah's parents' names ( William and Mary, according to a family source) as Malvey and had no luck with any return.
Back to the investigation! Thank you both again.
