Mary,From the info you have supplied I have two possible answers. There are approximately 1852 townlands in Co. Monaghan but only two Aghadrumkeens both in the Barony of Dartree, and Poor Law Union of Cootehill. Cootehill Union, in Co. Cavan included part of Co Monaghan.

The first Aghadrumkeen (A)  is in the civil parish of Aghabog and the second (B) is in the civil parish of Ematris(Rockcorry). They are only a few miles apart.

A,  shares a boundary with the townlands of Corranewy and Corragarry in the adjoining civil parish of Ematris..

B,  shares a boundary with the townland of Cordressigo and is only a short distance from the townland of Claraghy, Rockcorry. 

There are Beatty/ Beattie families living in that general area. Hope tis is of help to you. L. McD.

Thank you, both Patricia and Lawrence, for your incredibly speedy and extremely helpful responses.  I had looked at the list of townlands several times - but had failed to come up with anything likely.  I hadn't realized that there were 2 townlands named Aughadrumkeen in Ematris - so that is a very useful tip.  I'll now follow up on your suggestions.

Thank you, too, Patricia for the details re the marriage of William B and Alicia Jeffers - I had found this and apologise for not indicating that this was the source of the 1829 info on William's abode.

William was my 2nd great-granduncle, a son of my 3rd great-grandfather George Beatty who emigrated to Canada ca 1832 with the rest of his children.  William stayed behind and "disappeared" from family records - until 2 years ago when DNA matches and English official records revealed that he had, as family lore had told us, worked "for the railway" (as a contractor) and led a peripatetic existence which took him and his family from Ireland to Scotland, England and possibly Wales.

Hi Wendy - It would indeed be interesting to compare notes.  My family tree, The Ancestors, is on Ancestry and My Heritage - do you use either of these?

My Beatty family lived in the Parish of Ematris near the town of Rockcorry - for example, in the townlands of Edergole, Tomany, Claraghy.  My 3rd great-grandfather George Beatty (1787-1871) was married to Margaret Dawson and they had a family of 8.  Following Margaret's death, George emigrated to Canada ca 1832 with 7 of their children (by then young adults). Their son William stayed behind, probably because he was already married and had started a family. 

DNA matches have helped me to find descendants of William and I have been able to trace him to England where he worked as a railway contractor.   

George and most of his children family emigrated first to the Ottawa Valley area - and then moved on to Toronto - and finally to Huron County where they purchased land and turned to farming.  George's daughter Elizabeth went to Michigan; son Lancelot to California; and son James to Pennsylvania. 

My cousins and I have tried for years to find out more about George's origins and also about Margaret Dawson.  Some family members believe her to be related to the Dawsons of Dawsongrove - but those Dawsons were rather posh and are pretty much accounted for in official documents, pedigrees, etc - so I'm not convinced.  Also, my cousins and I don't share DNA with any of the posh Dawson descendants.

I'd love to know about your Beatty ancestors.
