My great-great Grandfather, Thomas Thompson emigrated from Castleisland Co. Kerry around 1858. He came to Detroit, Michigan USA and married Bridget Barlum who may have also been from Castleisland. Does anyone have any information on either ancestors? I am not sure how to proceed to learn more about them. I know a fair amount about their life he in American but little about the home country. I would like to visit and this is the start of my journey.

Hi,
Perhaps you might give some more info? About what year was Thomas born? His wife? Names of their children, in order if possible.
Thanks.

Sheila,
If you use Amazon, there are many records for this family and many family trees.
These include death certificates for Thomas and Bridget.
Thomas's parents were said to be John and Johanna.
Bridget's were said to be Patrick and Teresa.
These names were provided by third parties so may not be reliable.

I think Patricia meant Ancestry rather than Amazon.

I am thrilled that some have replied. Thank you so much. I have talked with my brother Joe Dailey who uses Ancestry and he could tell me this so far. I have agreed with my brother to pay for the out-of-country research feature of Ancestry. He will be able to learn a great deal more. In the meantime, could anyone help me with this much? I believe they were both from Castleisland, Co. Kerry.
Great great parents on my father's side.

Not sure if this will be helpful but I was there some years ago and the priest told me they let the FamilySearch people photo all their records. You might check FamilySearch to see what they might have. I think Ancestry bought the rights to their records in the meantime but seems like FamilySearch still has the records. Good luck.
