Good afternoon.
I am trying to trace the family home and any relatives of my late father, who moved to the UK in the early 1950's. Unfortunately, as my father died when I was only 7 years old, I have very few details. What I have available is below.
Place of birth - Ardrahan, Gort, County Galway
D.O.B - 29 October 1929
Religion - Roman Catholic
Marital Status - Married to Alice Teresa Lane (nee Murphy) at time of death
Deceased - 28 November 1971
Interred - North Shore cemetery, Gibraltar
Details of whom I believe may have been my grandfather are also below
Michael Lane
Place of Birth - N/K
D.O.B - 4 October 1876.
Religion - Roman Catholic
I will scan a copy of the Register of Baptism for further information
My wife and I hope to visit Ireland in September (TBC) and it would be great if I was able to pay homage at my fathers birthplace and to meet any relatives that I may have.
Kind regards,

Searcher93,
Attached is the civil birth record for your grandfather, Michael Lane. It shows that they lived in the town land of Skehanagh.
What is your father's first name?
Regards,
Carolyn

Please complete our form https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet once you finalize your travel plans.
There are two Skehanagh townlands near Ardrahan. One in Kilthomas parish and the other in Kiltartan civil parish. However, the 1901 census shows the family in the civil parish of Kilthomas http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Galway/Skehanagh/Skehannagh/1383420/

Patricia, Carolyn and Roger,
Thank you all for your rapid response.
Patricia & Carolyn - My apologies, I should have been clearer with the details of my father. Christian name is Coleman. Surname is Lane
Carolyn & Roger - Wow! I have received more information and detail on my fathers side of the family in 1 day then I have had in my entire life. I do seem to recall a vague (child's) memory of staying at a farm with my late father, so this may indicate the farm that my Great grandfather Lawrence owned and possibly passed on to his son Michael?
I have also included further documents that may help in narrowing down details of my late father as well as two pictures of him - one with his brother (who may have been called Joseph), and one at the farm. I hope this will assist further in pinning down his home.
Thank you all again and I greatly appreciate all of your efforts.
Kind regards.

Searcher,
Attached is Catherine Lane's civil death record in 1888. In case you don't have this information, an Ancestry tree shows that Coleman's mother was Mary Kerrigan (1884-1974), and he was the youngest of 14 children. If you don't have an Ancestry account, I can share the sibling details if you'd like.

Hello Carolyn,
Thank you very much for this. I had no information whatsoever on Catherine Lane's history.
The same also applies to my father's mother - do I assume that as she was a Kerrigan my grand-parents weren't married?
As to finding out he was one of 14 children, that really stunned me. I don't recall my mother ever mentioning that the Lane's were so numerous! Yes, please furnish me with details on the other siblings.
I don't belong to an Ancestry account as to be quite honest, I was under the impression that my "tree" was too small to warrant it. It now appears that this is not the case. Any recommendations?
Kind regards,

Hi,
No, you can create a tree on Ancestry, and have it as small or large as you wish. There are already five trees on Ancestry with your family's information. So when you get a subscription you can see them, and the information will be readily available to you. The trees do not have a lot of records attached to them, but I think it's more of the case of the tree owners not interested in attaching the records that automatically show up. It will be much easier for me to email screen shots of both sides of your family instead of retyping everything here! So, send me your email address and I will send the information to you.
Regards,
Carolyn
