  • John Rourke/O'Rourke is a very common name in Ireland. Do you know his parent's names?

  • Hi,   John and Christopher's father was Matthew and his Mother was Elizabeth Piggott.
In the 1911 Census he was an assistant in a Public House in 5 in Lord Edward Street (Wood Quay, Dublin) ran by Healy.

  • I believe there may have been another brother born after my papa went to Scotland. Those are the names I also have for my papas families. My dad was also called Matthew

  • Hello orourke2006,

What records do you have, either from Ireland or Scotland, showing that John Rourke/O'Rourke's parents were Matthew and Elizabeth Piggott?

  • I had a DNA through ancestory .com and it enabled me to find some further information. I have my GGF army signing up papers which showed he was 41 yr at the time and all of 4ft 11 in which is odd given that all the ORourke family including myself are quite tall people. I have marriage certificate as well of GGF and mother which is how I know maiden name was Piggot. What did surprise me as well was once people from O’Rourke side emigrated to Lanarkshire to work in the pits how many names from my mothers side of Woods who were miners in Ayrshire were the same surnames ! McGinn’s as an example. I also know my auntie Betty visited the youngest brother of my papa called Christy who had a pub / hotel in Dublin and it’s in my living memory so I anticipate I have relatives who are alive but unknown to me
