My cousin and I from Australia will be visiting Dungloe within the first two weeks of January 2025. We are hoping that we might be able to meet someone at Dungloe who could introduce us to possible BOYLE family residents, or maybe let us know where our ancestors are buried. I have previously posted information about our ggg grand parents, John & Jane BOYLE. John was  a merchant in Main Street, he died 16th February 1866 and Jane died 18th November 1882.

Their daughter, Eliza BOYLE married John McELGUNN at Dungloe on 25th April 1845 and our great grandmother, Annie Elizabeth McELGUNN was born at Dungloe in about 1853.

Hoping there is an interested historian in Dungloe.

Regards

John Howe

  • I have been attempting to fill out the Meet and Greet form at https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet when I get to the Town or Village where we would like to meet with volunteer the form does not accept Dungloe or any places thereabouts not even Donegal.

My cousin and I will be in Ireland for the entire month of January 2025. We are hiring a car so are very flexible regarding an exact day to meet up with a volunteer.

We are seeking to see the area where our 3x great grandfather, John BOYLE and his family lived.

Our 2x great grandmother, Eliza BOYLE born c.1828 at Dungloe, Co Donegal, she died 23 Mar 1869 at Melbourne, Victoria, Australia.

Her parents were John BOYLE born in c.1800 died 16 Feb 1866 at Dungloe and Jane GADSBY born c. 1802 died 18 Nov 1882 at Dungloe. John BPYLE was a grocer/merchant in High Street, Dungloe. (1839 House Books) He was Warden for famine relief at Dungloe in 1847 and Relief Officer Rutland and Mullaghderg. John Boyle's store at Dungloe was used for outdoor relief and he was appointed the warden for Dungloe. (Ben O'Donnell "The Story of The Roses" page 81)

Eliza BOYLE married John McELGUNN 25 Apr 1845 at Dungloe. (State of Victoria Birth Certificate # 19670/1865 states "Parents married on 25th April 1859 at Dungloe, Co. Donegal, Ireland"). John McElgunn was a Revenue Police Officer.

  • Hi Eileen,

Thank you for the copy of Jane Boyle's death registration, it confirms the information that I had found.

My cousin, Janet and I still hoping that we might meet an Ireland Reaching Out volunteer that could meet with us at Dungloe in January 2025.

    Regards

    John
