See the Oct 1884 Birth Registration of MIchael White in the attached file below.
Can someone let me know what is the name of the town that it says where Michael's father John is from?
Can someone read the name of his mother? Formerly ??
Can you read the day in the When registered Column?
Can you read the place in the column that identifies Mary McGrath as present at birth?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

(1) I believe the town is Gortbeg near Tuam. County Galway.
(2) The maiden name is Hanney, Margaret Hanney married John Whyte (White) in 1872. See marriage cert in post above.
(3) The birth was registered on 16th of October 1884
(4) The place of birth was likely Gortbeg although badly written.

Marge,
I checked on RootsIreland (paid subscription) and they had another suggestion for Michael's mother's name.
Michael was baptized 3 August 1884 in Ballinastack, Cummins, Galway, mother's name Mary Flamming. His civil record posted 8 Oct. 1884 in Gurthbeg, Abbey, Galway. Probably Gortbeg, Eileen mentioned above. Mother was Mary Slamon.
Gortbeg Townland, Co. Galway (townlands.ie)
His mother's name was Mary Slamon. He had at least 5 siblings baptized in Ballinastack, Cummer. Different variations on mother's last name- Slamman, Slamen, Slamin, Slamon.
Siblings- Bridget 1880, Mary 1882, Margaret 1887, John 1888, and Patrick 1892
I did not find a marriage record for John and Mary.

I was working on the mother as Margaret , as indicated on Michael's birth cert but if you know the mother is Mary Slamon as Mary above indicated ( I do not have access to RootsIreland ) then I will not research further on the Whyte/Hanney marriage until you decide which or both. Do you know of any family names that connect ? as there are many children in this marriage also. I am grateful to Mary for trying to find family connections but there are a lot of White's (Whyte's) and I do not want to put you with an incorrect family.

Marge,
Just to be aware that Gurthbeg (probably Gortbeg) is in two civil parishes, Cummer and Kilererin. For me, the witness is in Glenbeg.
Best wishes, Kieran

Thanks to all who replied to my request! Based on all of the answers there are a lot of Michael Whytes out there! So it is no wonder I was confused. I am researching a DNA Match to me and she is descended from a Michael Whyte who emigrated to New Jersey, USA and married a Mary Duffy in 1913 in Orange County NJ. So I am trying to research who his parents might be so that I can perhaps learn a little bit about my maternal heritage in County Galway.
I have seen many of the possible parents that you cite above. The original record that I attached is a Civil Registration and I attached that because I could find no baptism. The reason I selected this one twas because of the another document. See that document attached below.
THe attached document is from his wife Mary Duffy. See her Naturalization Papers. In there Mary says that her husband Michael was born in Galway in Sept 1884. This birth registration made sense to me because an Sept 1884 birth being registered in the following Month Oct 1884.
If this is correct then the Civil Birth Registration that I attached would be correct and his mother would have been Mary Slamin or whatever it reads.
In the document you can see also that Mary and Michael were no longer living together. I know when Mary died - 1961 and Michael was dead by then, based on a news article I found but I am still researching what happened to Michael.
Based on the siblings that Mary mentions above I see that there is a Patrick born in 1892. I just found a WW 2 draft registration card for a Michael Jospeh White and the point of Contact is listed as Patrick White. I will investigate to see if this Patrick is his brother and if he was born in 1892 and who Patrick's parents were.
More to be done.See other attachement.
Thanks I will keep you posted.
Marge
I have seen the record referred to above whose parents are listed as
I have found
I will tell you that the Michael Whyte I am interested in is the Michael who emigrated to New Jersey and married a Mary Duffy. I am a DNA match to one of the descendants.
I found one

It looks like only part of my reply was sent. trying again...
Attached find the Natrualization Papers of his wife Mary Duffy White, it says Michael was bon in Sept 1884
Attached fnd MIchael's WW2 draft record. Notice the Point of Contact is Patrick White. Is this Michaels brother? Is this Michael the husband of Mary Duffy?
More work to do!!
Thanks
