We are visiting Galway in November and from research from the 1901 census see the Maloney family lived in:

County- Galway

Parliamentary Division- North Galway

Poor Law Union- Glennamaddy

District Electoral Division- Creggs

Townland- Gortnadeeve (East)

Barony- Ballymoe

Parish- Ballynakill

As we are only around for a few days can anyone please help us as to where we can find the best place to go to trace our family history, all the names of the places are very confusing.

If anyone can help I can give more information if you need it.

Many many thanks

Jude

If you have not done so already, please complete this form https://www.irelandxo.com/meet-and-greet  regarding your trip to Ireland.

Surname was Maloney or Mullowney. Husband was Bartly. Mary's maiden name was Kain or Keane

Margaret civil birth record December 1870 see fifth record at link  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1871/03305/2211370.pdf

I could not locate a baptismal/birth record for Bridget, Mcihael or John. Note: 1911 census showed that John was a widower and his three children were all born in America.

See fourth record at the link for 1905 death of Mary Mullowney  https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/deaths_returns/deaths_1905/05599/4574047.pdf

  • Hi Roger

Thank you so much for your reply, I have filled out the meet and greet form so hopefully we will get to meet someone who can point us in the right direction.

The information you provided about Margaret and Mary I to had found that information, so I must be on the correct research which is helpful to know.

I did also find a Maria Mullowney c1869 with the same named parents and a Pat Mullowney c1867-1869 with the same parents.

You were correct in saying John was a widower on the 1911 census as he married a Honora Agnes Tighe in Boston Massachusetts in 1895 and she later died in Boston Massachusetts 1908, they had 5 children all born in America and it looks like she and her family also came from the same place as John in Galway.

I also recently saw the records of another marriage for John in 1913 to an Annie Ward c1867 from Ballinasloe, it also seems she was present at his death in 1924 in Glennamaddy if I am correct?

Thank you for taking the time to reply and give your help, much appreciated.

    Kind Regards

    Jude
