I am searching my Crawford family in Ireland and have hit every brick wall I can possibly hit.

I am wondering about John Crawford, the son of William Crawford and Ann Gardner (these two may have come from Scotland). John was born in 1812 in Coreen, Antrim. Coreen may not be where he is specifically from.

One problem is that I am not 100% about his wife. I've seen two different wives, one being Annie Lillie Jones. What I do know is that they had a daughter, my second great grandmother, Nancy Crawford. She was born in Northern Ireland(this is all I know of her location) on 9 May, 1848.

Thank you for any help you can give!  I am happy to answer any and all questions and give you whatever info you may need that I may have.

  • The tithe applotment records for Skerry parish list 3 Crawford farms in Coreen in 1825. Held by Thomas, William & James Crawford.

All had left or died by the time of Griffiths Valuation in 1862.

Coreen/Correen is just to the north of Broughshane village.  I’d guess that your ancestors attended Broughshane 1st Presbyterian church. Their graveyard is full of Crawfords (a common name in that area).

Broughshane 1st’s baptism and marriage records start around the mid 1830s. There’s a copy in PRONI (the public record office) in Belfast. I don’t think they are on-line anywhere. But you could go there (or get a researcher to do it for you) to see if the family is listed.

Most of the population around Broughshane originated in Scotland. They mostly arrived in the 1600s. No records exist for that movement. (A distance of about 25 miles, by the way. Not a big move).
