Patrick Long was born in Glantane/Killshannig Mallow, Co. Cork to Denis Long and Margaret Cremin

The Long family lived in house 24 in the townland of Shanavoher in Killshannig. Patrick’s father was a farmer. The family consisted of Dennis Long, his wife Margaret Cremin, and in 1901 sons Michael and John and daughter Maggie.

Patrick arrived at Ellis Island on 2nd April 1905 on board ship the Celtic, recording his last residence as Mallow co. Cork. Patrick was going to stay with his brother Michael Long in Brockton Massachusetts who emigrated before 1901.

Patrick requested naturalisation on 29th June 1908 in Massachusetts while living at the address 15 Spring Street Brockton. He listed his occupation as a mason.

Patrick became a fireman and by 1920 still lived at Spring Street in Brockton as a lodger with the Wright family. In 1930 Patrick was still a lodger but now living at Warren Avenue with the Baker family.

Central Fire Station today

At the age of 60 Patrick was drafted for WWII in 1941. It is likely that this was only a draft registration and that there was no active service considering Patrick's age at the time. His address was listed as 67 Winifred Road in Brockton. This time it also lists his wife Mary C. Long.. Patrick still worked as a Fireman at Firestation No.6 in Brockton MA. This fire station was located on West side, 540 West Street.
