Migrated to/Born in USA
Son of Thomas Fetherston (born ~1796) and Bridget Coen, who lived at Grange, near Strokestown.
Thomas, Bridget and several older children emigrated to America in 1849; Andrew and other younger siblings followed in 1851. The family settled in Staten Island, New York.
Andrew and his older brother Patrick fought in the American Civil War. Andrew was captured in the battle of Ream’s Station in 1864 and confined in Salisbury Prison, North Carolina. When he was released he was near death from starvation, but was nursed back to health.
He married Elizabeth Devine after the war; seven of their 14 children survived.
The family was involved in local politics, and Andrew became a county tax assessor. He was struck and killed by a racing car in 1902.
