IRISH FAMINE ORPHAN

1850 Anne Taylor, House Servant, age 16 yrs disembarked Sydney NSW in 1850 on the “Tippoo Saib” as an Assisted Passenger.  Anne was an Irish Famine Orphan taken from the Birr Workhouse.  Anne could  neither read nor write but was the only one of the orphans to change her religion during voyage from Catholic to Church of England. ef: No 282 2136 (R0144) , 2461 (R0158).  The Irish Famine Orphans were bought to Australia under a Scheme arranged by Sir Earl Grey.

Ann Taylor (or Mary Ann Taylor) was born 1834 at Parsonstown, Kings County (Birr, Co. Offaly. Passengers records in 1850 on Tippoo Saib state her parents Edward and Catherine Taylor both deceased. 

In 1857 She had a daughter Mary Ann Taylor born at the Woolshed Gold Field, Beechworth Victoria.  She was unmarried.  The Father's name was Frank Bolton, 34, Carrier from America.  She had one child prior to this birth in 1857.

i have not found a death or a marriage for Anne Taylor.  She was chaged with neglecting her children in 1862 at Beechworth, newspaper article says the father sent money from Otago N.Z. and when not drinking she was a good mother, but at the time had been drinking for weeks.  She took the Oath in the court.
