Migrated to/Born in Australia

Bernard is my great-great-grandfather. I believe Bernard's parents were Hugh Reilly and Catherine Flanagan. He migrated to the colony of Victoria in 1857 aboard the Montmorency, sailing from Liverpool via Cork. He may have been living in Liverpool before migrating. He appears to have traveled alone and arrived in Melbourne 25th May 1857. In the ships manifest he is listed as a mechanic. His age in the manifest suggests he was born in 1833.

He is said to have married Jane Russell in Geelong, 1858 although there is no record of the marriage in the Public Records Office of Victoria and it's been suggested they may have eloped. He was living near Warrnambool in 1862 (his son William was born that year) and passed away at Ararat Asylum in 1879 from what I assume today would be called dementia.

I'd like to validate Bernards place and date of birth, parents and when/if his parents and siblings left Ireland. I'm also curious about the occupation listed in his immigration record - mechanic?
