I believe Bridget was a first cousin to my great grandfather John Harrington and his siblings. Catherine Harrington was a sister to my great great grandfather Thomas Harrington of Carrowbeg
Daughter of Peter Grogan & Catherine (formerly Harrington) of Glantavraun. After her parents died, she remained living in Glentavraun with James, her brother and Catherine, her younger sister. None of them married. Bridget was able to read but not write. She could speak Irish and English. She outlived all her siblings and was the last of her family to live in Glentavraun. The cousin who was the informant of her death underestimated her age by more than a decade.

HelloTeresa. We exchanged messages on a Mayo forum last week.
When was John Harrington, your great grandfather born?
Griffith Valuation shows that Peter Grogan, Bridget's father, held land in Glantavraun with a John Harrington and James Delany. The 3 men also had 3 acres of bog in Carrowbeg. A James Harrington held land with John Kennedy and John Dunlevy in Glentavraun and Carrowbeg.
Baptisms in Kilmovee parish:
August 1857 baptism Maria Harrington daughter of Thomas Harrington & Honora Keny, Carabeg. Sponsors Peter Grogan, Maria McDermot.
Peter Grogan and Catherine (surname unclear) were sponsors for James Harrington, a son of James Harrington & Catherine (Kean), baptised 4th Sep. 1864. Peter Grogan was also the informant for James' birth registration.
Baptism Nov. 1864 Catherine Harrington, daughter of John Harrington & Maria (Dunlevy), Glan. Sponsors Michael Grogan, Maria Harrington?
Baptism 9th July 1865 Martin and Michael (twins), sons of Thomas Harrington & Honora (Kenny), Carabeg. Sponsors Michael & Maria Harrington; James & Bridget Grogan
There was also a Tom Harrington in Glan who was married to Ann Grady and had a son Martin baptised 11th Nov. 1866.
I made an error with a digit inputting Bridget's date of death which I've corrected. She died on St. Brigid's feastday. Her birth year is estimated. According to family she lived to be over 90 which would put her birth pre 1850. Another relative who knew her said she was older than James, her brother. Their ages were the other way round on 1901 & 1911 census.
I've had responses for 2 of my 3 Bridgets whose profiles I posted for St. Bridget's feastday.

Hello Maggie,
My great great grandparents were Thomas 'Tommy Johnny' Harrington and Honora Kenny. They were married around the time of the great famine and had several children. Given large gaps in the timeline of first few I'm guessing they may have lost children in infancy. As you know the records are sketchy during this period of time. However, here is what I have:
Margaret b 1849. Married John Kilgallen in Kilmovee in 1871. Witnesses Pat Harrington and Thomas Frayne. They emigrated to Haslingden, Lancashire where they raised a family of 9.
Mary b 1857. Baptismal sponsors Peter Grogan and Mary McDermott. Married Hubert Muldowney in Kilmovee 1889. Witnesses Pat and Mary Harrington. They had 7 children.
Thomas b 1859. Sponsors Thomas Grogan and Winifred Frayne. Married Catherine Horan in Kilmovee 1899. Witnesses Bridget and Patrick Horan. No children
John b 1863. No birth record but death cert in 1913 lists age as 50 yrs and wedding cert lists Thomas as his father. Married Anne Hynes in Aughamore in 1895. Sponsors James Grogan and Bridget Hynes. They had four children including my grandfather Thomas and his sister Maggie Anne
Twins Martin and Michael b 1865. Martin's died within a month of birth - sponsors Michael and Maria Harrington. Michael's sponsors James and Bridget Grogan. No further record of Michael.
Catherine b 1868. Sponsors John Cox and Maria Calter. No further record of Catherine.
I believe Thomas and Honora also had a son Patrick born sometime between Margaret and John, I have a DNA match with a US descendant of his and family lore confirms his children were cousins to my grandfather. However, we cannot find documentary evidence to confirm this.
I discovered Thomas had a brother James married to Catherine Kane and again the Grogans appear as sponsors at baptisms/witnesses at weddings.
I've started working on the Grogan line. I believe that the informant of Kate's death in 1929, documented as a cousin Ellie Harrington, Glan, is in fact the daughter of Kate's cousin Thomas Harrington, grandaughter of James. As I progress my research I am discovering DNA matches with individuals who have this Grogan family members listed in their family trees.
St Brigid's feast day will always have a future poignancy for me as three days ago my Aunt Nellie (Ellen Harrington), great grand daughter of Thomas and Honora, passed away at her home in Aughamore.
