Brigid (Delia) Elizabeth Kelly : Short Biography

Brigid, who was known to all as Delia, was the 3rd child and daughter of Thomas Kelly + Elizabeth Beirne. She was the granddaughter of James Kelly + Anne Lanaghan and Luke Beirne + Winifred McManus.

She was the twin sister of Winifred and was born on December 27, 1874.

Her sponsors were Stephen Kelly + Winifred Conry.

She appears in both the 1901 and 1911 Census as living on the family farm.  She is the only female family member present, as her mother died in 1900, and her sisters (possibly) immigrated to New York. She lived with her dad and most of her younger brothers, so most likely did the largest share of housework and cooking besides other chores.

On February 9, 1914, she married Peter Kelly of Carronamaddy, the son of Peter Kelly + Ellen Horan.  Witnesses to the marriage were John Kelly (brother of Groom) and Kate Hanly. 

On September 27, 1915, she gave birth to the first of her 3 children.  She had a son who died the same day.

On April 24, 1917, she gave birth to a second son, Peter Joseph, who lived almost 2 months and died on June 17, 1917.

On July 10, 1921, she gave birth to her third child, a daughter, Elizabeth Mary.  She was 46 and a half years old at her birth.

She resided in Carrownamaddy from her marriage until the death of her husband,  She then returned with her daughter to live with her bachelor brothers, Thomas + James on the family farm in Corrigeen.

She died on June 13, 1952, as per her obituary in the Roscommon Herald.  Her funeral Mass was held at the Catholic Church in Tulsk and she was buried at Killynagh More Graveyard, Killina, Elphin.
