  • Hello, I have Doherty connectioins  in the Donohill  area which is immediatley adjacent to your Doherty family connection.

I would like to see if  there is a family connection.

I have been able to trace my Doherty family line back to the early 1800's.

Do you know the parents of Elizabeth Doherty?

    Regards

    Colin

  • Hello, My Doherty family line lived in Donohill.  Maurice Doherty (or Doorty as recorded in the Church register) married Julia Breen on 16 Feb 1836 in the Immaculate Conception Church, Donohill.  Maurice was likely to be born in the 1808-1813 period. Julia Breen was born in about the same period. She died on 5 December 1871 in Coom, Co. Kerry. They had at least 8 Children. Catherine botn mrch 1837, Thomas  born eatly Novembr 1840; Johanna born 1841; Micahel boen April 1843; Maurice born late December 1845; John Joseph born early Jan 1849 and another Catherine born 1848. I have nformation about all the children except the last catherine - of whom I have no informatiom.

In the 1851 Grifiths Valuation  Maurice has 2 parcels of land: 1 in Shandangan and the other in Moatquarter.  There seems to be quite a few Doherty families living in the Donohills area at the time of the Griifiths Valuationn.

All the other 7 children emigrated to Newcastle New South wales Australia. Some 5  siblings married while Catherine and Maurice did not marry upon arrival in NSW.

My direct family line is through Micahael Doherty. Michale arrived on the SS Abyssian on 20 Sept 1859. he moved to the Dingog area of  upper Humnter Valley and  married Mary Connelly on 9 Jan 1871 art Rosebank, Dungog.  Mary eas born 28 Aug 1852 in Dungog, NSW  Micahel died on 5 June 1909 in Maitland, NSw.  Mary Died on 11 Aug 1890 in Maitland, NSW.  They had 6 Children.  The eldest of whom was John Augustus Doherty who was my great Grandfather.

I hope this helps you determine if there is a family link.

    Colin
