George Wightman is my 4th Great Grandfather, he married my 4th Great Grandmother Margaret born circa 1770 - 5th Apr 1850) (surname unknown could possibly be Ritchie) I'm guessing about 1805/1806.I have no idea when or how George died but he was stated to be deceased when his daughter married in 1839.
I have found a reference to a George Gunning dying in 1830 in the Irish List of Wills, but am unable to obtain a copy as I live in Australia.
They had 4 children that I know of
John Wightman - born on 30 Nov, 1807 in Donaghadee (he is the only child mentioned in Margaret's will)
James Wightman - 24 Jul, 1809 in Donaghadee
Margaret (Mary) Wightman - 9 Jan, 1811 Donaghadee - 10 Mar 1880, The Kinegar, Holywood, Down. - Margaret married John Gunning, Abt 1803 - 28 Nov, 1878 The Kinegar, Holywood, Down, Salt Merchant on 17 Dec 1839 at Holywood. George is said to be deceased in the marriage notice.
William Wightman - 12 July, 1813 Donaghadee, down.
I have no idea what George's occupation was but oral history handed down from my Great Grandmother Annie Wightman Gunning MOORE/WALLACE was that one of her Grandfathers i.e. George Wightman or John Gunning was a Sea Captain and sailed his ship from Sweden to Ireland and Scotland and his cargo was salt. A lot of the information I have on the Wightman's and Gunning's I obtained through Family Notices in The Belfast Newslatter. When one of John Gunnings Grandson's John Gunning MOORE died of Scarlet Fever when he was visiting his grandparents John and Mary Gunning in Belfast in 1871 a notice was put in the paper saying Grandson of the Reverend George Wightman.
