Joseph Hamilton here. I have done extensive research on my direct line and am looking for a connection to my great grandfather x4 John Hamilton married to Sarah Lang. He was born in 1784 in Fermanagh. Father unknown/Mother Unknown. From the BIG Y research I know that his line connects to the same haplogroup of the current Baronet of The Silvertonhill Hamilton Line. Their/our lineage is descended from the second son (Alexander Hamilton) of James Hamilton 5th Laird of Cadzow (1396-1441). This makes us part of the Group B Ancient Line of Hamilton under the Hamilton DNA Project. Wondering if we are connected to this George William Hamilton. have you taken the DNA test? The haplogroup I’m looking to connect with is I-BY34528. This haplogroup is linked to me and 3 other descendants. would very much like to connect with you!
Best-
Joseph Hamilton

Hello Joseph,
Pardon my late reply - I haven't checked in here in a while and almost gave up connecting to County Fermanagh Hamiltons, though I know they have to be out there. George was born in 1798. His father was also George, and he had brothers, not sure about a John however he did have a son John, who also had a son John who emigrated to Pennsylvania.
We have done DNA but just the Y64, not the Big Y. We did have a match to Hamilton descendants of Westburn, who descend from the Hamiltons of Torrance, who descend from Walter who was the third son of the Fourth Laird of Cadzow, John Hamilton. Being the third son, he started his own line a generation before your Alexander did the same thing. Our Haplogroup was the boring R-M269, (seems to belong to all of Europe) but it has since been updated to R-Z253. We really need to do the Big Y. Best of luck to you and come over to clanhamilton.org or the Clan Hamilton FaceBook group - I'm sure your'll find some matches! Best of luck to you on your search.
