Place of migration
Stayed in Ireland

George farmed in the townland of Gorteen/Gurteen, near Garrison in Co. Fermanagh. He may have been born in Scotland - that was the story but so far no proof.

He had many children (17!) and at least 2 but possibly 3 wives.

At least 7 children emigrated to the Boston area, and also had large families. Many of the children married and stayed close to home, either in Garrison, on the farm in Gorteen or nearby in Donegal. I have only recently unlocked most of the children's names from old family notes from my great aunt. Looks like most everyone was born on the farm and many died there too. This is the townland, in case you're familiar with the area: https://www.townlands.ie/fermanagh/magheraboy/devenish/garrison/gorteen/

Everything my grandfather said has actually turned out to be accurate, so "family lore" in this case has been a treasure trove. Like most Irish and immigrant families, they stuck together and named their kids after their siblings and parents, which makes it easier to track.

I would love to learn about any of the Hamiltons who stayed in the area. I have them on Ancestry.
