George Boyd b 1798 in County Down Ireland immigrated to New Brunswicik, Canada in 1825. I found a land petition F4208 in Charlotte County New Brunswick Canda dated 1827 made by George Boyd, Hugh Boyd, and John Boyd along with George Roberts and Hugh Cranny. They appear to be some of the first residents in this part of New Brunswick, Canada.
The Irish Portal online exhibit has an introduction entitled “Stewart Donovan's Essay” written and researched by Dr. Stewart Donovan of St Thomas University. He described early the New Brunswick Colony of the 1820s and 1830s as follows: “The Colony consisted of single male immigrants, the majority of them ex-military, given the chance to earn a living in the vast, and as yet unexploited, timber lands of this new world colony. The timber industry, and its attendant jobs- shipbuilding and housing, remained the main stay of employment for Irish immigrants until about 1830.
