Isabella Martin, fifth daughter of William and Jane [nee ?Mills] Martin of Inisclin, Fermanagh, married William Matthew Shaw, son of Matthew & Mary [nee ?Beacom] Shaw of Boa Isand, in Tubrid in June 1878. They migrated to New Zealand shortly after with William's brother, Robert. They had 10 children who all survived to adulthood. Robert drowned in the Waikato River.
William's first recorded job in New Zealand was as a grave digger in Cambridge, Waikato. The eventually bought a dairy farm on the outskirts of Te Awamutu.
