James Begley was born in Balla in 1843.  He married Mary Higgins who was also born in Balla in 1850. They married on 12 March 1868 in Balla. In 1869 they arrived in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, England with Thomas and Bridget Begley.  We had believed that James and Thomas were brothers but I have now found on marriage records that James' father was called Frank and Thomas' father was called Mark.  The census show that James and Mary had a child in Burslem in 1869 and then returned to Ireland where they had a second child in 1870.  Their third child was then born in Chicago in 1875.  They then returned to Burslem and had another five children.  They were grocers as was  Thomas.  Subsequently the children of both  went on to run grocers shops in the Staffordshire area over the next couple of generations.  James died in 1917 and Mary in 1914.  They are buried in Burslem churchyard next to Thomas and Bridget and also James and Mary's son, Mark and his wife Annie who are my great grandparents.   I have been unable to find any further information on the family.  I have however found a little more about Mary Higgins.

If anyone is able to help with further information on the Begleys is would be much appreciated.
