  • James Maher was born in July 1821 in the townland of Tullowmacjames, Templetuohy, Co. Tipperary to Andrew Maher and Mary Ryan. He was a tenant farmer along with his family. They later moved to the townland of Lissanure. James was married to Ellen Feehily (both of Templetuohy parish) on 4 Feb 1846. They had their first son, Andrew, born in July 1849 in Templetuohy, Co. Tipperary. James, Ellen & Andrew emigrated from Liverpool, England to New York, New York in Sep 1849. They settled in Millcreek Township, Cincinnati, Ohio on a dairy farm. He and Ellen had 6 more children - Timothy 1852-1872 (drowned), Ellen 1853, John 1855, Matthew 1857, Elizabeth 1859 and Anna 1868. James' wife, Ellen died on 10 Feb 1873 in Cincinnati. He later was remarried to Anne Lenihan in Jan 1877 in St. Patrick's Cathedral in downtown Cincinnati. She died in date unknown and James was found to reside in the Little Sisters of the Poor, Home for the Aged in Cincinnati, Ohio in March 1910. He died on 22 May 1910. He was buried in the New St. Joseph Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.
