John Armstrong was born in County Fermanagh 16 January 1810, son of John Armstrong and Jane Ann Parkinson.
He married Elizabeth Clarke c. 1845. Elizabeth Clarke was born c. 1824, in County Fermanagh, daughter of John Clarke and Mary Smith.
John and Elizabeth and their children, emigrated to Australia, arriving in Moreton Bay aboard the Rajah Gopaul 14 September 1852. From there they made their way to Ebenezer and established themselves.
Elizabeth died 29 December 1859 and John remarried to Harriet Miller Wright with whom he had another family. John died 30 September 1895 and is buried in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
