He was  the son of Stephen Daly and Helen Kinsella who lived in Glassganny, Castlebridge, Co. Wexford in 1852 (G.P.V.).

Stephen Daly had only a plot of land at the bottom of the farm as his brother Paddy Daly inherited the farm.

JOHN DALY married his neighbour PEGGY LEARY. They had 3 daughters and 2 sons. John worked as a gardener all his life in the Landlords estate. He was said to have a gift with shrubs and plants.

John's daughter Anastasia and husband Thomas lived with John. Thus the Daly household became Murphys through the marriage of Tom Murphy.

John Daly's gardening knife went down through the family. He died on St. Patrick's Day 1892 and is buried in Screen Cemetery.
