Originally from Kerry, probably Listowel John Jones was appointed to the Royal Irish Constabulary on the recommendation of R A O'Donnell RM in November 1859. He was allocated to Cork City in April 1860. He did not have an unblemished record by any means! He was fined 10 shillings at least twice, the second time - a fortnight after his wedding - for ' overstaying his leave of absence by 4 hours'. He was dismissed 3 months later for 'preferring false & vindictive charges against his Constable & several other irregularities: aggravated by denial'. His father in law was also involved somehow! He was dismissed a few weeks later. Molly always said it was something to do with 'sheltering Fenians'. Who knows! While in Cork, he lived in Goggins Hill. Married Mary Agnes Lohan in Ballinhassig, County Cork. She was nearly 20 years younger than him. They moved first to Glasgow in 1874, then to Liverpool in 1876 - 1879. The family settled in Liverpool. John worked as a clerk and a salesman during his life. I have a copy of a letter of recommendation from the parish priest in Scotland. He died in 1900, in the same month as his son William.
