Rev. John J. Clune was born in Norwalk, CT on 11 January 1878 to Thomas Clune and Maria Fallon. Both his parents were born in Ireland--Thomas Clune in Tyredagh Upper, Tulla, County Clare and Maria Fallon in County Roscommon.
John was the youngest of the children born to Thomas and Maria and he was born within a year of his older sister, Anna May dying of measles. He was ordained to the priesthood in December 1903 and shortly thereafter, he went to minister in Iowa where he remained for the rest of his life. Fr. J.J. (as he was known) was responsible for the construction of many churches in the Dubuque area where a large number of Irish emigrants resided. He ministered there for many years and was noted for having a keen interest in poultry farming. He died in 1941 in Iowa and is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Dubuque, Iowa.
