John Kearney was born in Co. Down and baptized at Aghaderg Parish on 7 Dec 1828. He married Catherine Hanlon at Aghaderg Parish on 11 Oct 1852 and had four sons and two daughters .
They were tenant farmers near Rathfriland , Co. Down and were probably successful for a decade or so. Presumedly after the Famine of 1879, John decided to leave his farm and go to England with his family. He settled in Ditton, Near Widnes, Cheshire.
