I am looking to find my Grandfathers family. His name was John Shea or O'Shea he was born in 1862/3 in Cahersiveen. He joined the army as a young boy and I am guessing that he must have served for few years as I can't find any trace of him, until he married my Grandmother Susan Rae in Glasgow 1901. Where he states that his parents were John O'Shea and Ellen Lynch both deceased. He died in Glasgow in 1939. He spoke of having a sister who went to America name of Mary or Margaret, No date. They had 7 Children that survived, names are Mary, Patrick, John, Henry Flood, (my father) Nora Lynch, Michael and Cornelious..  I am hoping that someone has a story that could be his family..

  • Thank you for your response, I don't know how to prove that any of these are who I am looking for.

What I forgot to mention is that I have my Grandfathers WW2 discharge papers as he joined the Royal Engineers,  Sapper, in1917 L,W & D. WR328097. John was discharged in 1918 being no longer fit for war service aged 55. I have also found attestation papers for John Shea Caherciveen but there is no family name except on one he states he is living with Michael Murphy with Shea written above Murphy. High Street Caherciveen.

I have also found a Death record of John and Ellen O'Shea in Killognaveen John O'Shea Farmer died January 6th 1886 age 86 and Ellen O'Shea Febuary 12th, 1886.(No Maiden name) Patrick O'Shea their Son was with both at their death.. I don't know if these are my Great Grandparents but I can't find any documentation for them..

I don't know if you can help me any further with this informaton.

    Kind regards

    Patricia Lake.
