Migrated to/Born in New Zealand

Margaret arrived in New Zealand in the eighth "Fencibles" ship 'Oriental Queen' which sailed from Tilbury, London on 16 May 1849 and Gravesend on 17 May 1849 direct for Auckland, New Zealand where it arrived on 18 September 1849.  Her given occupation was 'domestic duties'.

Margaret's emigration was sponsored by her brother-in-law Benjamin PALMER. Benjamin & Martha (b 1817 !) were married at Rossorry Parish Church, Enniskillen by Rev John TAYLOR on 31 December 1845.  Witnesses were John CARSON & James MORRISON.  Benjamin & Martha and their son William emigrated to New Zealand on the same voyage as Margaret.  Benjamin paid Margaret's passage - probably £7/5/- - presumably to help care for his son William, aged 2.

Margaret was a witness at the marriage of John DERBY & Eliza SMITH in Auckland, New Zealand in 1850.  Eliza's father William SMITH was a "Fencible" who emigrated to New Zealand with his family on the same voyage as Margaret.

Margaret's parents are thought to be William CARSON (b abt 1795 ! in Ireland) & Ann MORRISON (b abt 1797 in Enniskillen !)

Other children of William & Ann appear to be William, Robert & Elizabeth.

Ann, William, Robert & ELizabeth arrived in New South Wales, Australia on 'Cornwall' on 9 February 1850 having sailed from Plymouth, England.  Immigration records show Religion: C of E could read & write - State of bodily health: Good - Complaints re treatment on board: None - Relations in colony: cousin James CLEGG, shoemaker, South Head Road.  They each received £2 on arrival, presumably from Immigration Board.  They all subsequently went on to New Zealand on 'Emma' in April 1851.  William & Robert returned to Australia on the same vessel approximately 3 months later.

Ann was born in 1823 (!) in Enniskillen and married John Charles DAVIS.

William was baptised at Rossorry Parish Church, Enniskillen on 13 December 1823; married Elizabeth McGRATH on 17 December 1853 at York Street Chapel, Sydney; and died of chronic bronchitis and dropsy on 21 November 1895 at Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Robert was baptised on 1 March 1826 at Rossorry Parish Church, Enniskillen by The Rector Rev Auchinleck.

Elizabeth was born 1832 (!) at Enniskillen; married David Benson ANDERSON on 5 October 1854 at St Matthews Parish, Auckland, New Zealand.

Margaret married George Sheppard WARIN on the same date and place as her sister Elizaberth.

George & Margaret were sponsors at their niece Elizabeth DAVIS's baptism on 9 October 1853 and again at their niece Emma ANDERSON's baptism on 5 August 1855.
