I have a Joanna Lyons who married Thomas Cunningham that I believe were in the Killarny area, but were both probably born around 1800. They had a son, James Lyon Cunningham b. ca 1828 who married Mary Cullity. They had a daughter, my great grandmother, Anna Maria Cunningham/Counihan b. 8 Feb 1849 poss. Killarney. I don't know of other siblings, although I'm pretty sure there were some. Thomas and Mary died in Boston, MA in 1888 and 1892 respectively. I can't find their emigration records and am pretty sure they went to Canada first. In any case, I'm just throwing this out there because yours is the first Lyons I've seen anywhere, so possibly there is a connection.
Michael J Lyons (my grandfather) was born on Feb 6, 1880 to James Lyons(Larha) & Margaret Sullivan(Kilimero) Birth records indicate Lahra.
Michael was the eldest of 5 siblings ( that I can find) and left for New York in 1900. Siblings: Bridget 1881, Jeremiah 1884, James 1886, & Thomas 1888.
I'm not sure if any of Michael's siblings left Ireland. Michael's parents, John & Margaret were married on Feb 23, 1879. Both had fathers named John.
My search is to learn if any of James & Margaret's descendants are still in the area. Any info on Parish, graveyards etc is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
Tom Lyons

Good morning and thanks for the reply! I have, in my limited research, been unable to go beyond the names of my ggp's, James Lyons & Margaret Sullivan. We may have a connection but I lack the info to confirm it.

I have a 3rd great grandfather from County Kerry, born approximately 1843, John R. Lyons (1843-??). He appears to have had two wives, first Mary Munnix, 2nd Bridget - last name possibly Mahoney.
John appears to have had several siblings, two of which named Thomas Lyons (1839-1916) and another Michael Lyons (1828-1901). Of these three brothers Lyons, each had children named Michael, James, John, Thomas; while brother Michael Lyons also named one of his boys Jeremiah - these sons of the three brothers Lyons all appearing to be born in the 1850's and 1860s, all in New York. Moreover, though I'm not sure whether my 3rd great-grandfather John Lyons immigrated to the U.S., I do know that his two brothers, Thomas and Michael (mentioned above), died in New York: Michael Lyons (1828-1901) died in Addison, Steuben County NY; while Thomas Lyons (1839-1916) died in nearby Elmira, Chemung County NY.
Interestingly, my 3rd great-grandfather John Lyons, appears in a marriage record of his son in County Kerry, in the parish of Ballylongford, on 14 Nover 1889 - his son's name was Thomas Lyons, and he married Mary Mahoney. Listed along with John Lyons is his wife (and mother of the groom) Bridget Lyons, with one of the witnesses to the union being Jeremiah Lyons.
Undoubtedly there is some connection here. But how, specifically, is dizzying and herein lies the typical issue we all run into when trying to track down those pesky Irish ancestors of ours. As for my third great-grandfather, I have not been successful to determine if he inigrated here and/or when he passed away, or the names of all of his children.
If you are on Ancestry's website I have a public tree that you may be able to pull up and refer to
