Michael James Welsh (sometimes spelled WELCH or WALSH) was born in Ireland and the earliest documentation of his presence in the USA that I have is his employment record with the B&O railroad, where he began work in 1863 in Barnesville, Belmont County, OH. He worked for the company until his death in 1896. His Irish birth is documented in 2 US census records (1870 & 1880). He married Winifred Forbis (Forbes) in Barnesville, OH on 09 Jan 1868.
It is unclear who his parents were or the exact date of arrival in the United States, although it would logically have to have been between 1847 - 1863. Ancestry DNA Thrulines suggests that his father was Matthew Walsh, b: abt 1816, d: 1893
