My 3rd great grandfather, Michael O'Donnell left Ireland for Canada before 1826. I have land records in Canada dated 11 Jan 1826. I have struggled with where Michael came from in Ireland. Common thought was Donegal with the rest of the O'Donnell's but no, our DNA proved we are of Viking descent landing in southwest Ireland in 8th century and adopting into the O'Donnell clan. In 1832, Michael marries Margaret Hanley, daughter of John Hanley and Mary Harrington. Michael and Margaret had nine children:
1. Thomas abt 1834 leads me to think maybe Michael's father was named Thomas
2. John Peter (1836-1906) married Anne Tracey (both John and Anne are in my direct ancestry)
3. Elizabeth (1838-1915) married James Flaherty settled in Tomahawk, Lincoln, Wisconsin
4. Michael J. (1843-1908) killed in railcar accident in Snohomish County, Washington may have married Margaret Martin and had son John Milburn O'Donnell (1899-1919)
5. Daniel R. (1845-1908) killed in same railcar accident (killed with brother above while trying to board a train)
6. Stephen (1845 Kouchibouguac NB -1919 Richibucto, NB) married Catherine McCafferty (1848 Glenelg, NB) did not travel with the rest of the clan west; stayed in Kouchibouguac.
7. Mary Anne (1849 NB -1941 Everett, Snohomish, WA) married Walter Tracey (1852 Canada - 1936 Monroe, Snohomish, Washington) parents are all my grandparents: Walter Tracey and Mary Jane Macklone and Michael O'Donnell and Margaret Hanly.
8. James (1851 NB -1918 San Francisco, CA) married Adeline Marie Wood (1863 NB - 1930 Seattle, Washington) had son Edward O"Donnell (1901-). Adeline is also my cousin as she is the child of Thomas Wood and Elizabeth Tracey.
9. Margaret Ann (1857 NB -1943 Grand Rapids, Michigan) married Thomas Donnelly
