My 2nd gr-grandfather Nicholas Burke b. Tipperary (parents and siblings unknown) died Cape Breton, Nova Scotia Canada in 1879. Married Mary Young, born Cape Breton, 1822-1908. Her father John Young was born Kilkenny 1793-1865. Nicholas Burke probably came to Cape Breton by way of Newfoundland. Nicholas Burke and wife Mary Young were described as Farmers on the Canada census of 1871. Children of Nicholas and Mary: William 1841-1916; John 1847-1851; Ann 1849-1869; John 1851-1917 (married Bridget CATHCART my gr-grandparents); Ellen 1854 d. by 1865; Michael 1857 d by 1871; Mary 1859-1887; Catharine 1862-1880, and Elllen 1865- ?.
