Patrick (his father, Patrick, was born in Meath, around 1790), was a farmer and tinsmith, born in Oldcastle, Meath, around 1816, and passed away in Delvin, Westmeath, in 1967. He had at least seven children: Mary (1839), Margaret (1841), Patrick (1842), Bridget (1845), Anne (1848), James (1851), and John (1853).
John was my great grandfather. He emigrated to England in the 1870's, and worked as a coal miner.
Mystery to solve: I live in Canada, and have a distant cousin in the United States. His great grandfather Michael Murtagh, was born in Ireland, sometime around 1840. He resided in Bohola, Mayo, Ireland. My cousin's grandfather, Thomas, emigrated to New York in the late 1890's.
I have constructed trees for both families.
What is the connection? Was Michael born in Meath, or Westmeath, and then moved to Mayo, Ireland? Apparently, he lived well into his 90's.
Thanks, Ruth
