Migrated to /Born in Canada

Our family story says that Peter O'Melia, sometimes called O'Malley, immigrated from County Mayo to Canada around 1836 after the death of his wife Margaret. He brought his infant daughter, Mary O'Melia, with him. We are able to find sources of Mary's Irish birth and relative year of birth. We found Peter marrying again in 1856 to Catherine McNamara, who also is listed as born in Ireland. Catherine and Peter had several more children all of whom are well documented. Peter died in Thorold, Ontario, Canada on 25 May 1884. An unsourced family story says that Peter married in Canada before he married Catherine and that his wife and several children all died during a cholera epidemic. We have found no documentation of that, except as told by family members. Old stories mention Westport, County Mayo and Louisburgh, County Mayo.
