Ancestors William Jerold Gray 1819 Claremorris County Mayo 

Mr. Gray was a native of Ireland, born in Claremorris, County of Mayo, on the 6th of July, 1819. He was the fourth son of John and Eliza Wilson Gray. His father was a member of a highly respectable family in the north of Ireland, and held in early life, a position in the civil service of the government and was sent to Claremorris on official duty. He there married Eliza Wilson, the daughter of George Wilson, a wealthy merchant of the town, and having resigned his office, took up his permanent residence in that place.

Surviving him, are the widow and three sons, Charles, William and Robert. 

In the year 1840, he emigrated to America, and coming to Michigan, visited his elder brother.

Occupation: In 1848, he was elected City Attorney, and the same year married Mary Stewart, daughter of Charles H. Stewart, Esq., and revisited Ireland with his bride, returning in 1849.

Names of Siblings: Of his surviving brothers, Sir John Gray, formerly Lord Mayor of Dublin, and editor of the Dublin Nation, and an intimate friend of Daniel O'Connell, is now member of Parliament for Kilkenny, and Wilson Gray, formerly Attorney-General of Australia.
