Tom Flatley (b. July 1890) was the son of Pat Flatley and Mary Regan of Sanúlán (who married in 1888 in the civil parish of Kilmovee). Tom was an Irish-speaker (east Mayo being a a breac-Gaeltacht in the 1800’s).

On April 6, 1922, at Keash Church, near Ballymote, Tom Flatley, farmer, married Mary Ann Henry of Battlefield in her home parish of Toomour, Co.Sligo.  The couple setttled in Co. Sligo where they raised a family.

Tom and Mary are the paternal grandparents of world-renowned "Lord of the Dance" Irish dancing icon Michael Flatley Jr.

Tom and Mary's son, Michael James Flatley (b.1927) emigrated to the United States from Ireland in 1947. After finding some success in business, he returned to Ireland briefly, age 26, to build his parents a home there.  Mick Flatley met his Carlow-born wife Elizabeth Ryan in Detroit, and founded Flatley's Plumbing Express in  Chicago in 1955. Michael James Flatley was brought home to rest in Ireland and is interred at St. Mullins Cemetery in County Carlow, Ireland.

Michael Flatley Jr (b. 1958) their  2nd son, was recognised in the Guinness Book of World Records for being the highest paid dancer (and for having the highest insurance premium on a dancer’s legs). Michael Jr., credits his father with instilling him a tireless work ethic and extraordinary drive which empowered him in his quest to turn dreams into reality.
