William, an argricultural labourer, was a widower with a son - Samuel, when he maried Eliza Greer (Grier) in Kilcoo Parish Church in 1870. They lived in the area of Clonachullion. Together, he and Eliza had four children in Ireland - Henry, Evan, Thomas and Isacc. The family left Ireland to come to Scotland with these four children.
