Longstone quarry was a major employer in the 1800's until it close in 1920,however it has continued in use in recent years on a very small scale and produced excellent old red sandstone flags about 5cms.in thickness. A massive flagstone was entered at the Limerick Grand Exhibition in 1906 and won a prize there. This flagstone was 40 feet long and about 3 feet wide and had to be carried on two horse carts on beds of straw .The quarry is located in the townland of Longstone and it is easy to see how it got that name. Many stone masons earned a living in that quarry. The attached photo was taken in 2002 when some minor quarrying was still taking place
