I have recently discovered the marriage record for my 3 X great grandparents. Patt Burke and Sally Brophy married on 20 Oct 1835 in Durrow. The record states that the name of the parish is Aughmacart. The place of residence is listed as something that appears to be Rasslo (?). I know of two children who were born in Ireland prior to the family's emigration before 1842. The children born in Ireland are; John Burke ca 1837 and Eliza Burke ca 1840. Their next child was born in New York ca 1842.
I am hoping to locate further information in regard to this family and this place, as I am planning to be in Ireland in October.
Thank you,
Barbara

I believe the placename given on the 1835 marriage record is Rapla which is a townland in Aughmacart civil parish - see the entry on the placename database (Logainm.ie). The Catholic parish was sometimes referred to as "Durrow and Aughmacart" after the names of the two civil parishes it covered.
I've had a look for possible baptisms of the the two children you mention, but did not find any promising matches. The baptism records for Durrow & Aghmacart for the period look intact and quite clear. Possibly the couple moved soon after they married..

Hi there,
Thank you for clarifying the townland in question, as it was rather difficult to read on the marriage record. The microfilm for the parish of Durrow is available online, so I am now in the process of reading it. I have located the baptismal record for the son, John, on March 14, 1837, so I will continue to peruse this film.
Thank you for your help,
Barbara
