Hello! I'm trying to find information about Edwards Byrns (also spelled Byrnes) from Athlone, born 12 May 1828. His brothers & sisters appear to be Bridget, John E, Ellen, and James. I'm particularly interested in Bridget, who is my great-great-grandmother and about whom I have absolutely no information other than she married Thomas Tyrrell. I have no information about Thomas Tyrrell, either. Are Tyrrells from Tyrrelspass?

I don't know whether Bridget Byrns and Thomas Tyrrell married in Ireland before immigration or in New York City, where they lived and had several children. Edward Byrns, by the way, became an Alderman for the city of Buffalo, New York in the 1860s.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

The baptismal records for St. Mary's Athlone parish have a gap between 1828-1832. So when I searched the subscription site Roots Ireland, I did not see a record for James or Bridget. I did find an 1825 record in the parish for a Michael Byrne but I don't know how he is connected. I also did not see a marriage record for Bridget and Thomas Tyrrell. Possibly they were married in America.

You asked about Tyrrells and where they were from. I checked the 1854 Griffiths Valuation head of household listing and there were 25 listed from a number of parishes. The largest number were from two civil parishes-- Mullingar and Castletownkindalen.
