Thia is yet another branch of my family that originated in Ireland and, as I am arriving in about three weeks time, I am 'hopeful' that I can visit places relevant and/or meet possible family connections. Can anyone help with family connections, churches of baptism, marriage etc?
I will go back as far as my 3xtimes Great Grandmother, Eleanor Kingsmill. (Much of the information originates in the tree named 'Descendants of Richard Kingsmill' - born in 1514 in Barkham, Berkshire, England.
Eleanor (daughter of John KINGSMILL and Lydia PALMER) was born abt 1787 in Borris-in-Ossary, Queens Co. (now Laois?) and, from the tree mentioned above, I believe that her forebears came to Ireland in the late 15th and early 16th Centuries. I am searching for any family or any information that can fill in some gaps in this branch of the Kingsmills, in Eleanor's life - and perhaps in her husband's life.
Eleanor married Thomas Palmer ABBOTT on 16 October, 1803. Thomas b. abt 1774 in Broadford, Co. Clare* was the son of Jonathon ABBOTT and Martha (unknown).
They migrated in 1838 to Australia with their large family of six sons and two daughters. Their second youngest son, Benjamin ABBOTT (my 2xtimes Great Frandfather) was born in Broadford, 'Kings Co'* (now Co. Offaly?).
* Two towns are named 'Broadford' . One in Co. Clare and one in Co. Laois and, as Thoms Palmer Abbott's parents are said to both have been of Kings Co (now Offaly) - I have wondered if the nomination of 'Clare' as his place of birth is an error. This research is always confusing!
Again - can anyone assist? Are there any family connections still in Ireland? Can anyone point me to the locations, churches etc around which their lives revolved?
Warm good wishes to all ---
Beverley Fox (nee Allen), Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.

Miriam - I am quite sure that all you mention will be the same family and thank you forall of this. You are correct in all your findings - and I will follow up that Ancestry tip. The Kingsmill Tree is an excellent source and the Abbotts and Kingsmills seem to have intermarried throughout severla generations. With this, of course, comes the confusion of repetitive generational names. What I do not have, as you know is information that will lead me to places and people - but this is of course a big ask - considering our distance in time.
Just for your information and incase I havent told you, through my connections with you and Ireland Reaching Out, I have made very pleasing contacts in Mayo regarding Agnes Polke's family and in Sligo re the Allens. I am also meeting up in with Dublin members of a family related to my great great grandmother, Catherine Duggan of Tipperary. My connections with you and Ireland Reaching Out has been very very rewarding.
Thank you, and I will email you for the newspaper articles.
Warm good wishes, Miriam

Miriam - I have just digested your offer to meet up with a local volunteer when I am in Ireland. I would love this - however - leave it with me a moment as I am travelling with friends, Faye and Don Wellings, and need to consult with them on any planning. I told Faye all about irelandxo and she has posted her Irish families' information (Grace and Norton) and received good feedback through Jane. Perhaps it would be well worthwhile for us both to meet up with one of your volunteers?
