  • The IrishGenealogy website shows a death of a Frances Greaves in Thomastown registration district in 1871, reported age 84 which gives an estimated year of birth as about 1787.

Register images for most of the Irish Civil records are available on the website to view free of charge, but as yet just index references for the early deaths between 1864 and 1878 are included. The register entry for this Frances should be included in the next update, so worth checking when this takes place…

Death certs from this time do not include very many details, so might be difficult to verify that this is ‘your’ Frances, but should at least confirm the date and place of death and her status, e.g. widow/single etc

The Catholic baptism registes for Thomas go back to the 1780s, the Church of Ireland baptism records only go back to the 1890s (earlier records were lost) , however I'm not seeing any sign of the surname Skippall in Irish records (same results for the surname Tippall/Tippull)

Previous thread for reference : Skipall or Tippall

  • Despite further research - no further discoveries regarding Frances Skippall.

I suspect she told 'fibs' about her age on the Population Census as there is some discrepancy between recorded birth years estimated dates recorded as 1787 and 1798

I have found several records of Baptism of her children in Docking Norfolk - but no records of Marriage between her and William Greaves (Greaves being my family name)

Skippall would not appear to be a regular Irish surname from the research I have carried out
