Information sought on Bernard Egan and Rose Duffey

I located the marriage record in Clara/Horseleap RC parish which is to the east of Ballinahown. See transcription below. Link to parish register is also below. I was unable to find baptismal records for any siblings. Also, you won't find baptismal records for Bernard and Rose because records do not go back in that area to the 1805-1810 period. Did Bernard and Rose leave Ireland?

Bless you so much! You have helped me greatly.  For a long time, I wondered if these persons really existed.  I appreciate your assistance more than you know.  I'm still trying to find a solid basis for their ages, but all in due time.

I am unfamiliar with these registers.  Were there indexes? I cannot imagine trying to read these documents!

I do not know if Bernard and Rose immigrated to the United States or not.  I assume that they did, shortly after James was born.  My reasoning for believing this is that James is listed as being born in Ireland on some documents in the US, and in New Jersey on other documents.  This makes me believe that maybe he was so young when they came over, he wasn't really considered to have been from Ireland.  Just a guess.

The registers themselves are difficult to read and interpret particularly the further you go back in the 1800s. Many of the older records are in Latin which also complicates the search process.

Yes, most of the registers have been transcribed and integrated into a searchable data base on Roots Ireland which is a subscription site. In addition, Ancestry and Find My Past created a data base of all parish register records last year. Both of those sites are also subscription sites. I located the marriage record on Roots Ireland.

I'm slightly confused though.  When I pull up the page for marriages, there isn't an entry for Feb 11 1827.  I scrolled through several years' worth of entries, trying to find it.  Do you know on which page you found the information?

I can see why you would be confused. Not sure why Roots showed Feburary 11th. Go to the link below which takes you to the page for Feb 11 (even though there is no entry for that date) look at the other page on the right for February 25 and you will see four Feb. 25 entries. The third one which appears to have been entered later is the record for Bernard and Rose. I just stumbled on the record when I was trying to figure out why there was no February 11th entry.

It  would be normal for the bride to marry in her own parish.

I spoke to a priest one time about the registars and he said even though the marriage was registered in a certain parish does not mean the marriage too place in that parish.

It nearly always takes places in the brides parish.  The priest from the brides parish would send info to the grooms parish and the priest would put it into the gooms parish registars.

(Does that sound confusing)
