I just found out that my Great Grandfather Joseph Gowan was born in Gaisill in 1868. I believe he arrived in New York City around 1898.

  • Welcome to Ireland Reaching Out!

Joseph was the seventh of 13 children born to Francis Gowen and his wife Elizabeth. The family lived in Killeenmore townland in Geashill civil parish. Below is a transcription of the baptismal record from Roots Ireland.

Here is the 1901 census record showing that Francis Sr. was deceased  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/King_s_Co_/Cappancur/Killeenmore/1471234/

1911 census record for Francis Jr. and family  http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/King_s_Co_/Cappancar/Killeenmore/560686/   Elizabeth had died.

I was unable to locate death record for Francis Sr. and Elizabeth on the free site www.irishgenealogy.ie
